PAC Committee Descriptions

Committee Committee Purpose Overview of Duties Time Required
Co-Chairpersons  To organize and facilitate monthly PAC meetings and related materials/projects to support PAC objectives as directed by principal/committees. Work with school principal to develop monthly meeting schedule and agenda, serve as contact for chairpersons to ensure PAC meeting discussion of issues needing to be addressed, sort and distribute PAC mail, chair monthly meetings. Several hours monthly in addition to attending monthly PAC meetings.
Secretary Record minutes and create monthly newsletter. Attend monthly meetings, record minutes of meeting, create word-processing document of minute, for approval by principal, and distributed to the family messengers prior to the next monthly meeting. September through May.        1 1/2 hours per meeting and a few hours of word-processing.
Treasurer/Budget Responsible to maintain accurate financial information for PAC.  Formulate, maintain and report on the annual  PAC budget. Deposit all funds raised.  Write checks to pay PAC expenses in a timely fashion, reconcile checkbook, prepare monthly income and expense report for meetings and maintain true and accurate records.  Prepare school year budget for approval at October.  Create spreadsheet with historical and updates on as-needed basis. Two hours monthly with additional time required during major fund raising events.  4-5 hours in fall for budget preparation;  2 hours each month for preparation.  Attendance at monthly PAC meeting.
Appreciation Brunch To organize appreciation brunch for entire staff; held in May. Organize volunteers to bake and manage event. Planning time in March/April;  Event held in May.
Book Fair To plan, publicize, coordinate and conduct the annual book fair for funds for Fisher School. Organization of Book Fair activities.  Involvement with Book Fair company and management of
in-school help.
Time intensive for a two week period in November.  Additional time required for planning and distribution of materials.
Cultural Arts   To provide age appropriate cultural arts programs for K-5. Preview/organize cultural arts events for students.  Obtain principals' approval. Supervise in-school event.  Write follow-up press release and submit to local newspapers for publication. A few hours monthly from September/June
Destination Imagination (D.I.) To coordinate DI program for all Fisher students. Organize volunteer coaches, determine teams and register for OM/DI tournament held typically in March. A few hours monthly from September through June.
District Council To attend district council meetings held by the superintendent of schools, and report back to PAC on ongoing issues, concerns,  and curriculum changes that are happening system wide. Monthly meetings according to District Council schedule.  Typically one month in a.m. and next month in p.m. September/June
Docent In Art The Docent in Art program introduces students in grades 3-5 to the works of famous artists.  To help prepare the volunteers for  their lessons, they meet once a month with the coordinator and other volunteers to train the new docents.  These meetings will give you all the information you need to teach the students.  No prior training in art history is needed.  The Docent program is unique in that  in addition to providing our students with valuable art lessons, the parents also have an opportunity to learn about artists and art history.  The program also sponsors field trips to the Fogg Art Museum in Cambridge and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. The docent coordinator is responsible for determining units for monthly presentations, organizing monthly meetings to introduce the artists to the parent volunteers, scheduling presentations with the teachers, coordinating activities with Boyden and OPR, setting up museum field trips, maintaining/organizing units periodically and recruiting new docent volunteers. Parents are needed to present artist's work through slides and prints in the classrooms once a month for 45 minutes.  We need approximately 20 parents to be able to teach all of the classes.  
Family Carnival / Auction To organize the annual family carnival held typically on the 2nd  Sunday in March.  Silent Auction to be held in the evening, shortly thereafter. Organize games and activities; arrange volunteers; acquire donations for silent auction and basket raffle room; determine schedule and monitor all activities during the event. Several hours per week throughout the year,  until carnival date.  Soliciting donations begins in Fall.
Family Math To organize math night for grade 1, 2, and 4. Organize volunteers and gather materials for math night and host/manage each event. Planning/meetings December through April.
Family Photography Provide portrait opportunity, typically in fall and/or spring for Fisher families. To organize photography dates and times with photographer and Fisher School. October for the Fall event and April for the Spring event.
Family Science To organize science night for grade 3. Organize volunteers and gather materials for science night and host/manage each event. Planning/meetings December through April.
Field Day To organize annual  Field Day held typically in the beginning of June. Organize games and activities; arrange parent volunteers; determine schedule and monitor all activities during the event. April, May and event in June.
Fisher Friendship Directory and Handbook To publish a directory for Fisher families to facilitate communication between classmates and provide important phone numbers/information. Collect and publish data in book form and distribute to students.  Request information, input data into database, proofread with subcommittee, obtain approval from principal, deliver/pick-up from production and deliver to school. Collect/input data in early September.  Produce and deliver in October.
Fisher phone-in To coordinate a group of parent volunteers to assist office staff in checking daily attendance. Recruit volunteers and schedule for each school day. Check phone-in messages and cross-check daily class attendance.  Call home/work to verify any discrepancies in absence vs. phone-in information. School Year - daily at 9am. (Fisher)
Government Affairs Report to PAC regarding ongoing school district information. Attend school committee meetings and report on issues relative to the Fisher community. Meetings held on two Mondays each month and others on demand.
Grade 5 Awards Ceremony To organize activities for grade 5 graduation ceremony in June. Organize volunteers for grade 5 breakfast, plan decorations and activities for event.  Coordinate fundraisers to raise additional funds. Several meetings from March through June.
Holiday Book Giving Organize annual holiday book giving program, which is offered to Fisher families to decorate book plates, donate funds used to purchase new library books and dedicate books to teachers as a gift during the holidays. Organize volunteers and materials to make bookplates, collect money and work with librarian to obtain books and software. November/December and February.
Innisbrook Gift Wrap
     
To organize and manage this popular fundraiser.  Because we participate in all three, Fisher receives over 50% profit on all gift wrap and cookie dough/gourmet dessert orders.  Also, gift wrap is offered year-round on the innisbrook.com site by entering Fisher's code 105890 and having the orders shipped directly to your home. Contact Innisbrook representative; preparation and distribution of promotional materials; compile and forward orders to Innisbrook by predetermined deadline.  Organize volunteers to assist in distribution of product. Gift wrap is during September, with distribution in November; Cookie dough/Gourmet Desserts is October with distribution in beginning of December; School Supply Box is in April with distribution the week before school begins in the fall.

To organize collection of required labels which can be used to acquire school items from the participating company's  catalog. Collect, trim, organize and mail labels to obtain credit for school.  Organize volunteers as needed. Year round collection; Typically meet with volunteers a few times in the fall and in the spring.  
Landscape Responsible for the upkeep of the school grounds and work with  nature trail volunteers. Planting projects, weeding and overall upkeep of gardens. Duties performed in the spring and late August.  Depending upon number of volunteers helping, job takes a minimum of 2 hours (up to 2 days.)
Nature Trail Help promote and  maintain the Fisher School  nature trail Organizing cleanup, maintenance, and upkeep of the nature trail . Fall and Spring
Open House To facilitate refreshments at Open House in September. Organize food and volunteers for Open House night. September planning and execution.
Volunteer Coordinator Coordinate teachers' needs with parent volunteers. Work with a committee to ensure teachers have volunteers they need throughout the school year.  Main focus is media center, computer lab, phone in, main office, typing, story reading, classroom, school store, health screening. Send out/receive forms from parents.  Make sure that all parents interested are placed in at least one position. September/October.  
Publicity To promote Fisher PAC events and activities within the community. Write press releases and distribute photographs to local newspapers and cable television network on events and activities sponsored by PAC. Two + hours monthly.
Representatives to Governance Council Act as an advisory group to the principal.  Develop goals for the school improvement plan.  Develop and review  policies, programs, and goals within the school. Attend monthly meetings with principal,  report back to PAC on building improvement plan, ongoing issues, accomplishments and goals set by governance council. September/June  monthly  meetings.  Two year position.
Soup Luncheon To organize and plan soup luncheon for entire Fisher staff to show our appreciation for them. Organize volunteers to make and deliver a variety of soups and breads to school. Organize and clean up. November/December
System-Wide PAC To represent and communicate on behalf of Fisher School at system-wide PAC meetings. Attend and report on agendas from meetings. Meetings on need basis.
What's It Like  Coordinate disabilities educational unit for Grade 2 students. Organize volunteers and materials for disabilities program for 2nd grade curriculum, teach parent volunteers, coordinate and arrange times for guest speakers. September through May
WOW Publishing To coordinate the writer's workshop for
Grade 1.
Organize volunteers to make book covers for student manuscripts. A few hours throughout the year.
Yankee Candle To organize and manage the sale of Yankee Candle products. Coordinate with Yankee Candle representative and recruit volunteers to organize candle sale and distribution. October/November
